Glamorgan Seniors v Surrey Seniors
Champions Challenge

Seniors’ captain Jeff Thomas presents the England-Wales Champion of Champions Challenge salver to Ian Attoe, captain of Surrey Seniors team

The 2024 season has begun with the Champion of Champions challenge at Pyle and Kenfig with Welsh Champions Glamorgan Seniors  playing English Champions Surrey Seniors. All agreed the two-day match has been a great success with the matches played in the best of spirits. Surrey won the first day foursomes 3.5-1.5 before all enjoyed a superb meal and evening function in the newly refurbished Pyle & Kenfig clubhouse. Club Captain Simon Howell welcomed both teams and said what a privilege it was for Pyle and Kenfig to host the first Seniors Champion of Champions match. In his response Jeff Thomas congratulated the Captain and the groundstaff at Pyle and Kenfig for the excellent condition of the golf course after the recent adverse weather conditions.

The second day singles teed off in cold blustery conditions but thankfully no rain. A very strong Surrey singles line-up won the series 7.5-2.5 but there were a number of close battles that went to the home green. Our congratulations go to Surrey on their 11-4 win and thanks to everyone who made the event so successful
